Ok, well here's another try. New Years Resolution #1. Keep a daily blog. I have tried so many times to no success. It's weird, I'm a guy who resolved to lose 100 lbs and was successful, but I can't write a daily blog....I'm really gonna try this time. Hmm.. what's on my mind..oh well, I just finished reading the book "Grapes of Wrath". Amazing. I've really only read plays and musical scripts and biographical works for character research in the past few years...this was the first novel I've read in...wow, since like 2005. Anyhow, it was incredible and makes me very excited to be a part of the 2011 Stratford production, which starts rehearsals in a month and a half. I urge everyone to read this book, it makes you appreciate what you have, and family most of all.

The book also made me realize I look way to well fed to play either of the roles I got coming up...Neither Connie nor Judas lived in "a time of plenty" and neither had money....so I suppose that is new year's resolution #2: lose 15 lbs. Ugh.

Ok, what else...Spiderman The Musical. Ok, sure I'd rather a show by one of my talented and deserving friends who have studied long and hard about what makes great musical theater would have a shot at a production with 1/60th of what the Spiderman budget is...but it already is what it is and I wish people would stop wishing bad things on the show. Accept that it is there and move on. It can't hurt to be supportive. The show is employing many many people and in times like this we should all hope they stay employed. I truly hope that during this preview process the powers that be are able to make the show as strong as possible and that the show runs and is able to employ people in my field for many years to come. Those who don't think it has artistic integrity don't have to go see it or audition for it.

I think that's a good enough entry for today... OH... how could I forget. I don't think I've really announced that I'm working on a new album. A patron of Stratford has been VERY generous in offering to fully produce a new album for me. We go into the recording studio in early February. It will be co-produced by myself and Brian Lowdermilk and will feature a mix of fully orchestrated re-imaginations of some of Broadway's most beloved classic tunes as well as new interpretations of popular classics from artists such as The Beatles and Bob Dylan. I will be debuting new music by 4 of the leading songwriters/songwriting teams in current American Musical Theater. There will also a song from Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar as bonus tracks just for my Stratford Friends....more info soon

everyone who likes IM and social networking should get meebo (combines all IM clients like facebook, AIM, Gchat into one) and ping.fm (type in one dialog box and it goes to FB, Twitter and more) then get meebo mobile for your phone and Anypost for droid or Pingle on iphone which links to your ping.fm account. I'd have never found these had I not been sick in bed with nothing to do...but they're awesome

Well ok...now that I've discovered ping.fm I'm gonna start trying to keep a daily blog. So I'm sick. I'm in Stratford Ontario working at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival right now having the time of my life playing Che in Evita till November. However, I have bronchitis and have been in bed for 3 days. I'm feeling much better today. I'd say I'm 70% back to normal. Hmmm what else..do I give a summary of my past few months here then start fresh with daily blogs? I really should have done this during the rehearsal process. It would have made for some interesting reading since I'm doing Evita in rep with Kiss Me Kate. To those of you who don't know...that means I could be doing a matinÃ©e of Kiss Me Kate and an evening Evita. We rehearsed them at the same time and they are both wonderful productions. But.. yea ok..after dinner I'll do a quick summary of my life since my last update then we'll take it day by day.

Ok. So The International Tour of West Side Story and I have called it quits. After a relationship of ups and downs we decided to go our own ways. I'll always have fond memories of the times we shared. BUT, I thank G-D to be back in the U.S.!!! You don't know how you've missed a place until you're in Beijing and they're selling you fried scorpions on a stick and eating dog...no like for real! Right now I'm home in Philly, but come Monday I'll be back pounding the pavement in NYC. If anyone has any inside info on auditions send it my way! Over and Out.

Ok so I woke up to a snoring girl today at 5am after going to bed at 1...sucks! Plus I have all these things I want to write about from the great time I had last night, but I left the journal I'm keeping upstairs in the hostel room and don't wanna go back in there and wake people up. There are now 6 people in the room. 3 girls from Brazil a guy from .... crap, I forget somewhere in Mexico, David and myself. One girl snores and the Mexican guy keeps making strange loud noises. Very nice people though. Ok, I have much more to update but I think Id rather do it at the end of the day today when I've not just woke up and I have my journal on me. David and I are going back to Bologna to drop of our luggage a friends house then we're drivin down to Pisa!! Not sure where else we're gonna go but you can be sure I'll fill you in later. BTW I'm really missing my family and friends...I usually don't after this short amount of time, especially my baby. Ok, it's almost 7 and the kitchen is about to open for our free breakfast...Guess I'm gonna make it today, will let you know how it is. I know you're all falling off your chair in anticipation to hear about my breakfast..Ok WORD OUT - J Dogg

I am sitting at the computer center of Hostel Archi Rossi. I think as hostels go this ones pretty great (excuse all grammar as the key boards here are different). I have to say Id rather be at a 5 star hotel any day. David and I got to Bologna around noon yesterday. The car rental place messed up and didn't have a navigation system waiting for us :(...but they upgraded us to a great Volkswagen Golf! So then we were gonna go drop off the bulk of our luggage in Reggio Emalia with a friend of a friend of his but we were unable to get in touch with her so we drove around aimlessly for a few hours and kept trying to make phone calls. We got lost and stopped at the shittyest looking pizza place to ask for help...we ordered a prosciutto pizza for their help...it was our first taste of Italy and it was the best pizza I've had in years! Its hard as hell to figure out these phones!! And I guess the day after chrismass is a holiday here so there was nowhere for us to get phone cards or cell phone chips. Skip ahead a few hours and we finally found our Hostel after a one hour drive from Bologna, 1 hr of getting lost in the maze of streets that is Florence and another hour trying to find parking. But we made it. Settled in to our digs and went to a near by restaurant. Worst service ever...Food was ok, not great. Got a bit tipsy on their house vino blanco and David and I caught up. Got back to the Hostel and made friends with the Mexican students staying with us in the hostel room. They asked us to come out to some club across the river...i was popped and wanted to call my family, friends and Jaimie so I took a rain check. David followed suit. I talked to everyone on Skype (had and am still having some serious problems with skype and my mic). Got to bed around 2am and slept till 1030. Good thing I woke up as they kick us out at 11 until 2pm! Today David and I got cell phones and all is good in the world. I slept through the free breakfast they serve here and David dragged me out of bed to go mingle the outdoor markets and we walked to the top of the Duomo a 15 min walk up the most winding staircase (i have pics that ill post later today if i can)The town is amazing...so much history and culture, so much good food. After the Dumo we had a fantastic lunch at Gusto Leo (Via del Proconsolo www.gustoleo.com) more great pizza... i think i need to stop with the pizza here, i know there is so much variety i need to be more open..Oh David had duck!!! said it tasted "gamey".. i didn't have the balls to try. I had pizza with prosciutto and pineapple....soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good and the bruchetta..TDF! We took in a bit more of the city and now im here. I could write so much more just about the last day but all of it could be summed up in a few pics...so ill just post those. Oh, and i just found the cutest little market with like spiced meat and wines and olive oils and oh..i took a pic of that too so youll see. I bought a 1/4 kl of prosutto, ill let you know how it is! Young....out

Ok, I'm sure no one reads this anyway...but I've been very bad at keeping my promise to keep this Blog updated....but all that is about to change...I hope. So here's what's going on with me. The tour of West Side (the best production ever) is on hiatus till January then we go non stop for a long long time. I'll have the complete tour schedule very soon. Basically its Europe for a few months then lots and lots of Asia. But the fun part is that one of the other guys in the cast and I are going backpacking in Italy for a month starting Christmas day!!! We had nothing else to do, so why not? We're just gettin of the plane, renting a car and drivin. If anyone has any suggestions of places not to miss, please email me! I'll do my best to get online and update the blog with stories and pics on our adventure, but who knows where we'll find the net out there. I'm out more to come later

Here I am .... CHINA?! Weird. I was too tired and excited to write after I got off the plane yesterday. But the flight wasn't as bad as I thought. The exit row was great...They even didn't say a thing when I used my carry-on as a foot rest...Well more like and ottoman..It was great. The cast seems like a really great group of people! And for once I'm not the youngest. So we got off the plane and even though I was very tired I pushed myself to go to the gym. Justin, Carl and myself found an amazing gym called "Phisical" just across the street and they gave us free day passes. Came back took a little nap, then we all met up for dinner at the theater. It is a fantastic space at the Macau Cultural Center overlooking the ocean. Amazing architecture here...plus what I found so interesting was that they use bamboo scaffolding? Thousands of years of technology and they still use bambo tied together to surround their structures, and I'm talking very nice high rises. Ok, so after dinner some of us went to "The Cave" a smaller Chinese version of Kahoonaville. It was ok, but there were two for one drinks so that was great. Woke up this morning and went on a run along the ocean (I woke up at like 5am) and here I am. So here I sit. A long day of goodbyes and packing is over. I’m watching a Sex and the City rerun and eating peanut butter and strawberry jam with a big spoon, as I tend to do when I’m nervous. By the way that’s my favorite snack in the world…I'm a pig, I know. But I figure where am I gonna find Jiff extra creamy and Smuckers Strawberry in China? I’m not…so it’s ok to eat two days worth of calories in 20 minutes (…uhh I’m ridiculous and I now have an awful stomach ache. So at this time tomorrow night I’ll be on a 20 hr flight. A 20 hour flight. Twenty hours of my life on an air plane. 20 hours sitting in a small seat next to a stranger. Perhaps I’ll like the stranger. Actually the last two long flights I had I sat next to the president of the national endowment for the arts and Montell Williams…I’ll let you all know how it goes (I say “you all” as if anyone is reading this..hahah) no matter…I’m gonna keep this blog because my memory is no good and this will be a great way to keep those memories at arms length. So my wonderful parents bought me a fantastic translator as a parting gift. You type in what you want to say and it speaks the translation back in the language of your choice. Ok, Conan is on now ( my fave. My sister wrote me a great card and got me a bag full of magazines and candy and my brother…well I’m not sayin what he got me. My best friend, Austin got me this great book called “Why Men Have Nipples” to read on the plane. It looks great…it’s a funny little book that answers questions that everyone has but no one knows the answers to. So I’m leavin to the airport at 6:30 from philly have to meet the rest of the cast at Newark at 9 and we don’t leave till midnight…long day of travel. I hope I like the cast. I’m sure I will. The only person I know is the actress playing Maria and she is fantastic and a very sweet. Perhaps I’ll be seated next to someone in the cast…I hope so. I requested one of the emergency door seats so I’d have more leg room…but I was just told by a friend that she thinks that those seats don’t recline?!? Please don’t let that be true!!!! I’m contemplating slipping the stewardess a hundred dollar bill to be bumped to first class 2O HOURS!!! Man. Ok..lets see what else.. My dog is sitting next to me. I’ll miss her so much…and really appreciate that my parents are going to be taking care of her for me (I write that in hopes that they read this) Ok…more to come from the airport during the 3 hours that I have there. Until then Zai jian ( good bye in Chinese :) )
